What is VOIP?
VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is the transmission of voice traffic over IP-based networks.
VoIP calls can be made over the Internet. Using the Internet connection for both data traffic and voice calls can allow consumers to save money on phone calls and for International calling, the monetary savings to the consumer from switching to VoIP technology can be enormous.
How it works?
VoIP services convert your voice into a digital signal that travels over the Internet. If you are calling a regular phone number, the signal is converted to a regular telephone signal before it reaches the destination. VoIP can allow you to make a call directly from a computer, a special VoIP phone, or a traditional phone connected to a special adapter. In addition, wireless "hot spots" in locations such as airports, parks, and cafes allow you to connect to the Internet and may enable you to use VoIP service wirelessly.
Who can use a VOIP service?
A VOIP service is available to anyone who has an ADSL service. A dial up internet service will not support a VOIP service.
Do I need hardware?
Well, this all depends on how you want to use your VOIP service. Vintek would certainly recommend connecting your normal Telephone using additional hardware rather than using your computer as this method is more practical and convenient.
There are some options for you to consider with respect to hardware. This can also be determined by what sort of hardware (ADSL modem) you already have. If you are not sure about then we up call our friendly sales staff and they will talk through the hardware options with you.
How much does it cost?
Vintek's VOIP services have a fixed monthly of $9.95 with your voice calls an additional cost. However, with every Naked DSL service we will waive the $9.95 per month charge on a 24 month contract.
